It’s been over 2 years since we’ve last received a full length album from Jay Rock. His 2015 release, ‘90059’, was an absolute power move by the LA rapper and featured numerous artists on the project like Isaiah Rashad, Busta Rhymes, and of course Kendrick Lamar. It’s been over a year since Jay Rock gave us even a single, but today that all changes with ‘King’s Dead’, the lead single off of Jay’s forthcoming album and will also be featured on Marvel’s ‘Black Panther’ Soundtrack which is entirely produced by TDE.
‘King’s Dead’ features epic appearances by King Kendrick, Future, and James Blake. Jay Rock begins the track with a threatening, fast paced verse after the Kendrick Lamar assisted hook. Future comes in after to do the track a justice with a saucy verse. However, towards the end of his verse, Future attempts to execute an extremely high pitched flow that doesn’t seem to go too well… Two and a half minutes in, James Blake and Kendrick team up to give the track an epic and destructive switch up! Kendrick goes in with an outstanding verse to bring the eventful song to a close. Notice how much I’ve mentioned Kendrick Lamar in this article about a Jay Rock track? Folks should know by now that if you feature Kendrick Lamar on your song, it’s not your song anymore.
