Every producer has their unique producer tag that lets you know who produced the song you’re listening. But not all of them are as well known or as heard as “If young Metro don’t trust you” or “Metro Boomin want some more…” The producer Metro Boomin is one of hip hop’s most famous and well known voices from producers and yet he isn’t even mentioned in the Grammy nominations for Producer of the Year.
Metro Boomin’s 2017 is one of the biggest year’s for him that other producers could only dream of having. He produced 5 Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 singles. Thanks to him, Big Sean, Kodak Black, Lil Uzi Vert, Migos, and Future have had their highest placements on the charts to date. “Tunnel Vision” by Kodak and “Bounce Back” by Big Sean both peaked at #6. “Mask Off” by Future peaked at #5 and is one of the most iconic songs of 2017. Bad and Boujee from Migos even hit #1, and garnered enough media attention to make Migos mainstream. He’s also made Billboard charting hits in 2017 with artists like Drake, 21 Savage, Gucci Mane, and Post Malone.
In mid-November, Metro Boomin had produced 10 songs all on the Billboard Hot 100 at the same time. Meaning for a period of time, Metro Boomin had 10% of the Billboard Hot 100. What’s crazier is that this is his 3rd time doing it. The previous 2 times were in 2015. In 2017, we’ve seen Metro Boomin drop numerous collaborative albums with other notable artists. He’s released Perfect Timing with Nav, Without Warning with 21 Savage and Offset, and Big Sean’s Double or Nothing. In addition, he produced the entirety of Gucci Mane’s mixtape Droptopwop and a significant portion of 21 Savage’s Issa Album. This includes the track “Bank Account” which peaked at #12 on the Billboard Hot 100.
It’s rare for a producer to be as popular as this. He has released an extraordinary amount of chart topping, cross over hip hop songs. It’s clear that his music resonates with people and his production has only improved. In cases like Big Sean and Gucci Mane’s projects, Metro Boomin pulled out his best production yet for a series of noteworthy tracks. No producer has the output and chart topping prowess that Metro Boomin has, so why the Grammy snub?
